The Legal Services Board has approved professional indemnity insurance (PII) arrangements which will enable corporate lawyers to provide pro bono legal advice outside of a community legal centre under the recent amendment to the Legal Profession Act 2004 whilst being covered by the appropriate PII coverage. The Legal Services Board has awarded $411,547 in funding to eight legal projects that aim to enhance and improve the justice system in Victoria.

The funding was awarded through the Project Grants stream of the Board’s Grants Program, which provides funding to projects that aim to improve the administration of laws, increase access to justice, improve legal services and inform and educate the wider community about legal services.

The Legal Services Board has approved a new Supervised Legal Practice (SLP) Policy and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Policy. These policies arose out of a review of the former CPD and SLP policies. The new policies aim to provide greater transparency and clarity around CPD and SLP and make it easier for practitioners to ascertain, and comply with, their regulatory obligations. (more…)
