Register of Legal Practitioners & Law Practices

Who is on the Register?

The Board maintains a Register of all:

  • Local legal practitioners – this means a lawyer who holds a current Victorian practising certificate.
  • Locally-registered foreign lawyers – this means a foreign lawyer who holds a current registration to practise the law of another country in Victoria.
  • Law practices that engage in legal practice in Victoria.

The Register includes:
For legal practitioners
– name, date of birth, date of admission to the legal profession, address for service, conditions imposed on the practitioner’s practising certificate (including the type of practice authorised), an indication of whether the practitioner is a barrister, the name of a law practice where the practitioner is employed (if they are an employee of a law practice), and any business names the practitioner trades under (if they are a sole practitioner).

For law practices – name, address for service, business names and names of partners/directors.

Limited information from the Register is available on this website, and can be searched using the search resource below.

When searching for a practitioner, you must enter the correct first name or surname of a practitioner or foreign lawyer.

When searching for a law practice, you may enter either the full or partial name of the law practice or its business name.
